Finnish Craft Fair and Laurentino Beanie

It’s a big week! It’s actually a big month! As you may know last weekend I was attending and teaching at Yorkshire Yarn Fest, in Yorkshire, England. This week it’s a release week for not just one, but two new designs: My Orgeat Sweater (that released yesterday) and freshly released Laurentino Beanie.

It’s also the weekend of Finnish Craft and Design Fair. The biggest craft show in Finland, with acres of crafty goodness under one roof, or probably a few roofs connected.

Laurentino Beanie is a collaboration design with laurelknits, and it released earlier today to celebrate the Finnish Craft Fair. If you are attending the show, please go see the beautiful yarns Laura has brought with her and you can also take a look at my beanie samples that are there the whole weekend!

I’m also going to the fair, but only for the Sunday, November 17th. You can come hear me chat on the stage on C-hall after 2PM or to meet me at Laine Publishing booth after 3PM. I’m bringing samples from my book Stripes as well as a few from the new book I’m currently making! Exciting! Hope to see many of you there.

Oh, I’ve also added an Events-section to my website recently. I thought it might be a good way for everyone to keep up with my crafty travels and places you could come and see me! I’m going to travel quite a bit this and next year, so I hope there’s a place near you where you can come and say hi - or take a workshop with me!

But let’s talk a bit more about the Laurentino Beanie. I’ve had these types of cables on my mind for quite a while now: cables that would fill the full fabric in a way! Now that I see how perfectly they work on a beanie, I’m also excited toes how they would work on a sweater. Cardigan or pullover, maybe even both!

The yarn, Laurentino, is a dream to knit cables with! The base is Portuguese merino, that feels light and soft but still holds the shape so well. Even though the base is labelled as a Sport weight, you can easily substitute with anything from Sport to DK weight.

I love that beanie season is starting off so well! I’m excited to knit (and release) a few more beanies and hats and head accessories this year.
