That hiking sweater
This post is about my newly released Orgeat Sweater! A sweater so nice that I’ve already knitted it twice - and I’m now trying to find yarn for a third!
Orgeat Sweater is one of those easy and lovely raglan sweaters that I’m always drawn to: fun to wear, with little stylish details and quite quick to knit. It’s designed in collaboration with De Rerum Natura and it’s knitted holding a strand of De Rerum Natura Ulysse and Berenice together. Very soft and lovely yarn combination.
I used colours Poivre de Set in Ulysse and Orgeat in Berenice for my sample sweater, and I knitted it in size 4. I’m now dreaming of more colourful version next. And De Rerum Natura has such beautiful choices available that I might need to make a few…
But this sample is not the only Orgeat Sweater I have! I also made another one for my first ever hiking and backpacking trip this past August in Iceland with my best friend Joji.
That trip was my first ever true backpacking and hiking trip that I’ve done and it was magical! We did the Laugavegur trail, so 3 nights and 4 days of walking over the mountains and glaciers, breathtakingly beautiful sceneries and a lot of hard work. It was amazing! WE even did the Fimmvörðuháls addition the last day, and that was hard and so beautiful.
We also happened to be the luckiest people ever, because the weather was simply perfect! Sunshine and warm days all the way! Can you imagine that we were coming back with slightly burnt faces? From Iceland!
But back to my hiking sweater! I decided that I of course needed a new sweater for this trip and since we were headed to Iceland I decided to knit another Orgeat (even though at that time even my first one wasn’t even finished), this time using Lettlopi by Istex. The perfect hiking yarn: warm, insulating, not too heavy and almost rain repellent.
I started my sweater probably only on the week of the trip, so knitted, knitted and knitted some more.Even when I arrived in Reykjavik I was still knitting. Now trying to finish the body… I even declined dinner that night (the eve of our hike!) to get my sweater done. And I did! Never mind blocking, but I finished it!
I packed my sweater, eager to use it for the most part of our trail. Days came and went, the weather was perfect and in the end I never really needed my sweater! Yes, I did use it in camp a few nights (just so I wasn’t carrying a sweater around for completely nothing), but I really didn’t NEED it at all.
So this is the tale of my hiking sweater! Now it’s waiting for all my future hiking trips!
