Mandarin Socks

Another week - another new sock pattern. Maybe you can spot the theme of the Spring here for me: no surprise anymore, this season has been all about socks. Today the spotlight is on my newest pattern Mandarin Socks.

This pattern has everything that makes a good and beautiful sock! This design highlights the textures, adds a bit of flowing cables and most of all has a pretty Eye of Partridge pattern on the heel to reinforce it. Fun little alternative on my forever favourite, slip stitch heel. These socks have tiny cables and a little moss stitch (or double seed stitch, however you wish to call this stitch pattern), and naturally the socks are spiced with a bit of ribbing - all the best and prettiest things for socks. I also feel that these are one of the prettiest and most delicate socks I’ve made in a while.

Mandarin Socks are worked from toe up, as I love to change the direction of my sock knitting from time to time! I do prefer making my socks from the cuff down for the most part, probably because I love the fit best that way - but I have made this toe-up approach work and fit equally well.

It’s slightly more complicated sock pattern than the one from last week, Cherry Good Socks, that obviously is my ultimate everyday sock pattern. But it’s not too complicated, so everyone who has tackled the basics of sock knitting can absolutely make them. It’s a fun little challenge but nothing too difficult.

I used Laurelknits KiMo Sock in my sample pair and this is one of my favourite sock yarns. It will last a long time, withstand heavy use and still look as good as new. The mohair addition helps this a great deal and with the good twist I also love the knitting experience. Oh, and the colour! Pure gold! Named Angry Salmon, there’s simply no better colourway imaginable! That colour with little speckles is too good.

Hope you enjoyed this look in this new pattern. I always love to give a bit more behind my designs like this in a blog post, because there’s only so much that you can say on the pattern page - and I so love to ramble with my writing from time to time. Now let’s knit all the socks!
