Milkshake Scarf
Today is the day! I know do many of you have been waiting for this little pattern to be released and now that day is finally here. Let me present you:
Milkshake Scarf features garter stitch, i-cord edging and super simple intarsia. Perfect little in-between knit while you think about the next big sweater project of yours. This pattern is also perfect for all the odds and ends you have lying around.
The pattern calls for fingering weight yarn, but substituting a heavier weight will give you even more size options. The pattern itself gives you 4 different sizes already, wider and narrower shape with larger and smaller size option. But this simple thing obviously is one of those things that is super easy to modify based on your desires and yarn availability! Just increase until half of the yarn is gone, then move to decreases. Easy-peasy!
I used the most joyful colours I happened to have waiting and just the sight of these shawls makes me smile. Every single time! The mustardy yellow paired with my all-time favourite neon-y coral and lovely speckled blue - just most joyful combination I know. Now I’m thinking about making another few versions of this scarf with maybe some added silk mohair or heavier weight yarn, say DK to even aran. Most likely I’m going to make both versions! It’s just that much fun to knit.
Also I wanted to say a few words on the intarsia used in this particular project. You might be waiting for a chart, but there is none. Why? Well, because it’s shaped in a way that when adding the intarsia changes you will always change colors art same spot. And the sides will either get smaller or grow and when you no longer have stitches for the side that’s getting smaller - you leave that colour out and join another! In my opinion this is intarsia made super easy and uncomplicated!
Intarsia typically is made for more complicated pictures and you really need to pay attention to all the columns and rows, but this project is quite different. It was also one of those easy designs that made me really love intarsia - made me find my way of designing things with intarsia. So I hope you give it a go and fingers crossed that you will also love it. Because I do see quite a bit of intarsia in my designing future!
If intarsia knitting is not your thing yet, you can also knit this scarf in just one single colour. And it will be just as lovely that way. The shape of shallow boomerang makes this such a joy to wear and also quite fun to knit. I feel it wraps around your neck so easily and you can wear it as headband or bow as well.
Now I’m tempted to search through all my boxes and drawers to find some yarn for my next Milkshake Scarf - or two!
