Pino Socks
A third sock post in a row! Who knew this day would come?! Not me, but here we are. I’m completely head over heels into sock knitting right now. Preferably socks with some stripes and even better with some intarsia knitting.
Being almost all of my knitting life focused on all other aspects of knitting than socks - shalws, sweaters, jumpers, cardigans, beanies, hats, cowls… you name it, I probably have knitted it! But almost never socks. I even joked about, that my husband needed to knit his own socks even though he was married to a knitter! But oh how the things have changed.
Today I’m sharing a fresh new design that was just published earlier today: Pino Socks.
You can find the pattern here on my website, and also on Ravelry.
This is a collaboration with my friends at Ilo Yarn and Ullrike by Anki. I joined their knitting retreat in early February this year and fell in love with the special colourway Dunes that Anki had designed for the retreat - that perfect dusty pink with warm hints of beige. Pure love! Mixed that with the classic red colourway Unikko from Aara Yarn and an idea hit me instantly! Stripes on stripes with an intarsia twist!
These even 7-row stripes make the sock seem pretty straightforward but fun to knit! The colours pink and red always make me so happy, and this project was no exception. These socks are such a happy and joyful pair that they make me smile whenever I see them. Even better when I wear them: Pino Socks are an Instant mood-lifter!
I know I said the big i-word: Intarsia. I want to reassure you that you don’t need to be afraid of the intarsia bit! The pattern is written row by row (as there’s really no way not to work back and forth with intarsia!) and it’s very easy to follow. After these socks I hope you’ll be very comfortable knitting intarsia in the round with this technique. No need to follow a chart, no need to wind colors on bobbins. Pure joy of intarsia knitting.
My friends made kits for this design too. You can find the kits on both Anki’s website and over at Ilo Yarn. What a wonderful collaboration! I love when creative forces are joined and the outcome is something so fun and happy! Creative friendship at its best!
