Sticky Toffee
Is this now the long awaited sign of autumn actually happening this year? Maybe! Let me present you my Sticky Toffee Cardigan!
I do talk quite a bit about the weather with all my posts here, but somehow it’s been that way from the very beginning (and by beginning I do mean my old blog too!). Reflecting on the weather gives me the opportunity to tune in with the circle of the seasons and life. I also love to see how it shows in all my projects!
Today with the release of this squishy cardigan it’s so obvious that I’m missing proper sweater weather! Crisp and cool air that demands you to wear something woollen and warm. I already wrote in my extra introduction of the cardigan this: That dreamy autumn weather is here, with golden leaves all around us and frosty mornings that make us reach for an extra squishy and warm layer! Sticky Toffee Cardigan was made for days like these!
And it’s true! When a summer has lasted from (feels like) early May and seems to never really end, you really start to crave that change. We also seem to have skipped spring altogether this year - crazy! And I know that Winter is probably just around the corner and I might regret ever longing for a change, but I am now. I wouldn’t mind a little actual fall weather! A bit of cold, some misty mornings, all the colors of the trees. I’m ready for the cozy season!
Now if the weather doesn’t change yet, this new cardigan pattern will get you in the mood! It’s knitted in De Rerum Natura Gilliatt - one of my all time favourite yarns! I even used the color Doré, an adorable deep yellow that always speaks to me! This yarn a perfect woollen spun, worsted weight yarn that is made with 3 plys. The fibre for this merino wool yarn is sourced from France and Portugal. Because it is a woollen spun yarn, it’s light and also quite warm - mostly due the way of spinning that leaves a lot of air into the fibre. The beast works for so many different knits: cables, textures and even the simple Stockinette stitch! It really is one of my all time favourites!
Then let’s get back to this cardigan I’m trying to share more of today!
Sticky Toffee Cardigan is knitted from top down in one piece with raglan construction. The yoke is designed to be quite a bit larger and longer than the actual body measurements to achieve that easy to wear modern look. Sleeves and lower body are quickly done as they are relatively short. The buttonband is worked last, adding a layer of sophistication.
I love the bit of extra ease on this cardigan a lot - but let me just tell you, that my test knitters had to work extra hard on this one, because I had missed the in-between rounds of the brioche for the yoke at first… Luckily this error was caught and now the pattern is in just as it should! I also love the raglan construction so much! To me it’s a sign of the ultimate comfort seater, always!
This cardigan has been in the making for a very long time. I remember starting it back in 2021 already… But I’m happy I kept going, because it is one of those sweaters that we all need in our wardrobes!
