Double Bubble

Friday pattern release days are the best! It sets up the weekend so nicely, giving everyone the possibility of a new cast-on. And quite often I feel that after releasing a pattern it’s the perfect time to cast on something new myself (oftentimes not regarding my WIP status otherwise). Apparently I’m heavily in the team “the more projects the better”! Always have been, and probably always will be!

Not that my days are so much different from weekdays to weekend. I always seem to have a hard time limiting my work-related projects solely for the week, but as long as it doesn’t raise my stress levels or otherwise strain me too much, I really don’t have a problem with it. Work-life-balance seems to be okay as long as my spirits are high, and I keep enjoying the projects I’m working on.

But back to the actual release of the day! Double Bubble Sweater!

This sweater was originally designed for Laine Magazine issue 19, Kaolinite, from last winter. The issue is packed full of gorgeous designs and the whole setting of the photography in the world of pottery and clay made this magazine such a beautiful one! The soft light and earthy, neutral colors make a stunning combination.

Here you see my interpretation of Double Bubble Sweater in more vibrant, summery setting! I took these pictures this week in Helsinki with the help of my lovely model, M. Thank you! It was a sunny day, always giving me some difficulties with capturing all the beautiful details, but I do love to have another look at the same sweater! If you want to see the magic of the Laine Magazine, and especially photographer Riikka Kantinkoski, head over to Laine Magazine website (or Ravelry!)

Double Bubble Sweater is really all about the yarn, so I must highlight it here as well. I used The Wandering Flock Merino Fingering in colorway Holograph Dreams and Mohair Silk in color Peach Pop held together – and just admired the twists and turns of the colors playing in the relatively simple Stockinette stitch fabric. I only added a few carefully thought-out details to make this a perfect V-neck pullover: tapered body and sleeves for comfortable wearing experience, a deep V at the neck with an attached edging bringing it all together and lovely tubular bind-offs at hem and cuffs.

The sweater has generous ease at the body making it a comfortable sweater to wear. You can substitute the combination of fingering weight yarn held together with a lace weight strand of Silk Mohair to a suitable DK-weight yarn – just make sure you get the right gauge. Or maybe swap the Silk Mohair for a brushed Suri Alpaca? The possibilities are practically endless!

This is one of those highly relaxing knitting project in my opinion. You can enjoy long strtches of simple Stockinette stitch with only a little shaping. Double Bubble Sweater is knitted from the top down in one piece, starting with the back and then picking up stitches for each shoulder. What I love maybe the most is the lovely trapezoid look created with easy decreases along the lower body and the sleeves.

I sincerely hope that you enjoy knitting this pattern as much as I did! I enjoyed it so much that I’m now considering making another one for myself. Let’s see if what kind of yarn choices I have in my stash for a second Double Bubble Sweater!
