Socks for Spring

It’s end of April and I think Spring is here to stay this time. The sun is shining and the air feels fresh and surprisingly warm. I’m ready for all the flowers and green grass.

To celebrate I have just released two new sick designs: Mauve Socks and Lemonade Socks! There’s something for every knitter: lace, colorwork, short rows, garter stitch, lovely fibres… You name it, these socks probably have it in one form or another.

Let’s start with Lemonade Socks. This pair is my very rare - actually my first ever - stranded colorwork sock pattern. I have knitted a few tries with this idea, but I’m finally so happy with every single detail. The colorwork pattern flows nicely from leg to foot and with the help of short row heel it doesn’t require any gusset shaping after the heel.

The garter stitch short row heel is something I have already used in my Kultaniitty Socks and I’m so pleased with the fit it gives. The heel uses some extra stitches from the instep side to accommodate the heel properly, because sometimes the short row heel can feel a bit shallow especially for a higher arched feet. You can easily play with the amount of stitches you actually incorporate for the short rows - so don’t be afraid of adding a few more or less to make the heel fit you the best. Also take into account that stranded colorwork doesn’t stretch that much, so also for this reason the extra stitches are highly useful.

Lemonade Socks are also the perfect opportunity to play with your favourite colors! Make the pair as bold and striking as you wish - or as subtle! The possibilities are practically endless. I’m so pleased with my choices of pale lilac and neon yellow. I used Hedgehog Fibres Twist Sock in colors Highlighter (yellow, CC) and Ghost (lilac, MC). Such a lovely pair! I’m already dreaming about knitting something else with exactly these colors! Maybe a small scarf? Another pair of socks?

Then we have Mauve Socks! This pair is somewhat unusual to my style as well, as I’m not that comfortable with lace. But here it just looks so yummy! It might be the faber combination together with the lace pattern and also the colors that make these such a dreamy pair for me.

I used Aara Yarn Aatos held together with Silk Mohair for ultimate warmth and comfort. I actually ended up making this pair slightly too big (long) for me, so you see my youngest son wearing the socks in the pictures. They seem to fit a men’s EUR 43 (US 10?) as well as my 39 size feet. A little negative ease is a good thing for this pair!

The color is such a lovely lavender type of lilac that I love so dreamily right now. And have loved for quite a while already. The Aatos color is actually named after me, as it was created especially for my Thistle Cardigan from Interpretations 9. You can find something quite similar choosing color Laventeli!

And don’t forget the use case SPRINGSOCKS for a 20% discount on these patterns! The code is valid until Friday, May 3rd, 2024!

Shall we knit all the socks now?
