Spring Sweaters

A warm gray sweater on wooden gray floor

Inner Peace Sweater WIP

We have pivoted back to Winter last week, and even now it’s snowing outside. This winter has felt one of the longest ones in quite a while. As much as I love snow and many snow sports, I feel like I'm done with this now. We can start again next November, but right now I would very much like to see some green around me.

This has also made a change on my needles. For month or so ago I was all about Spring things: tops and t-shirts and shorts and what not. But now, I do feel like long sleeved thick sweaters are all we are going to need. So I have started and almost finished two new sweater projects while waiting for Spring. And these are the loveliest, simple sweaters this time.

Serendipity Sweater FO

A little part of my sudden fascination for simple, easy sweaters might have something to do with one of my upcoming cable sweater designs, my Serendipity Sweater (see the picture above!). That pattern turned out to be slightly more complicated than what I saw on my needles as I was knitting it - and to top off that complexity, I also made numerous errors in the pattern making it very hard for my test knitters… Sorry and thank you! But everyone is saying that it’s worth the trouble, and by the time it hits everyone’s’ needles all the problems have been ironed out!

Inner Peace Sweater WIP - back

But let’s get back to my simple sweaters for a little while. These sweaters will be called Wild Air Sweater and Inner Peace Sweater. Apparently the simplicity has made my thoughts run wild while naming these and I love it! Inner Peace is knitted in Säie Wool Säie Merino Aran in color Fog Mr. Fogg - the perfect perfect warm grey, almost like greige. This colour has now taken the place of my previous two Säie Wool favourites: Oh So Pretty (THAT dusty pink) and Blackberry Yoghurt (the lovely cold lilac dream). I’m excited to start the sleeves later today, even though the body is super cropped the sleeves will be long. I’m all for this little play with the proportions in this one!

Wild Air Sweater then is knitted with Qing Fibre Silk Mohair in color Bubble paired with Knitting for Olive Merino in colour Cream, making this colour a total candy for the eyes. The neon bits just dance on the creamy white base, changing with every ray of light. It’s been such a joy to knit with! Also the combination of bases makes up a softest and loveliest fabric. This sweater itself is very simple, oversized jumper. I pondered whether I should make the sleeves “regular”, bell-shaped or just very loose - in the end I chose something in-between regular and very loose. And I love them! In general, I love the fit of this one so much. It’s sure one of my favourites and I’m going to wear it forever and ever.

I also had a lot of dreams about a full new summer knits wardrobe, but I might just focus on the shorts and then releasing the postponed summer designs from past few years. Because there are a few very gorgeous patterns just waiting to be fully written up and samples to be photographed. Though to get summer-like pics, I might need to wait a little bit… At least so that most of the snow has melted (again).

On my agenda this week is also a lot of pattern writing (again) and I’m still missing the pair for my Lemonade Socks! Take a look at one of my recent posts for more info on those new socks, Lemonade Socks are not the only pair waiting to be released. I’m actually hoping to publish the sock patters very soon, but that means that I really need to get going with the second sock.
